The Extension Center of the Faculty of Letters at UFMG (CENEX/FALE) coordinates and supports the university's extension programs and initiatives, which are renowned for offering a wide range of services, including language courses, proofreading, proficiency exams, theatrical performances, and more.
● Language Courses
The language courses offered by CENEX/FALE are part of the Teacher Education Program in Classical and Modern Languages, a university initiative that integrates the three core aspects of academic life: teaching, through the pedagogical practices of student interns; research, by allowing both interns and supervisors to explore topics related to teaching, learning, and translation; and extension, as the courses are available to both the internal and external UFMG communities. This program aims to facilitate direct engagement between the knowledge produced by the University and that produced by society, through the educational, cultural, and scientific opportunities provided by language study.
Since 1968, CENEX has been offering these language courses at an affordable price to the university’s internal and external communities.
Course Modalities
In-person
This modality allows teachers and students to participate in face-to-face classes according to scheduled days and times.
Virtual Synchronous
In this format, teachers and students participate in real-time, adhering to scheduled class days and times. Sessions are conducted through an online conferencing platform, complemented by additional resources to enhance the learning experience.
Online Asynchronous
These courses offer students the flexibility to set their own study schedules. The content, developed by the Faculty of Letters at UFMG, incorporates learning pathways that integrate all four language skills using authentic multimedia texts (both oral and written). Comprehension activities provide automatic feedback, and the system checks responses and offers guidance. Tasks that require written or oral production are assessed by a tutor, who provides support throughout the semester. The courses are hosted in a dedicated virtual environment, with technical support available. While students can choose their study times, all coursework must be completed within the timeline set at the start of the course.
