Project Summary:

To have an international event in Cordisburgo, MG dedicated to the study of translations of the work of João Guimarães Rosa. In parallel, an intensive Italian language course will be offered to the local population during the event (basic training for the reception of visitors). As part of the second annual event, this free language course will be supported by the UFMG Faculty of Letters and local schools in Cordisburgo. The languages taught in this series are from countries that have translated the work (in whole or in part) of João Guimarães Rosa.

Genral Objectives:

To present Cordisburgo to invited foreign experts; to host research in the areas of literature, linguistics, geography, geology, sociology history, etc. and to promote networking by realizing an event which focuses on studies involving translation of Rosa´s work.
The initiative of providing a 15-hour intensive course on Italian language and culture is another aspect of the proposal (supported by the Faculty of Letters of UFMG), which aims to involve the local population in the internationalization of this city. 

Specific Objectives:

- To promote exchange between Brazil and Europe with researchers from both places in an event about translating the work of João Guimarães Rosa.
- To host and support renowned researchers and encourage exchange between Brazil, Europe and other continents.
- To seek support for a ‘João Guimarães Rosa Translation House’ (associated with the UFMG Faculty of Letters) in Cordisburgo.
- To create - together with invited foreigners - an international research group with activities from various countries interested in the work of Rosa (e.g., Italy, France, Germany, the USA, etc.).
