SPEECH AND CORPORA

Conference in memory of Claire Blanche Benveniste

GSCP is the international conference of the Gruppo di Studi sulla Comunicazione Parlata, a research group of the Società di Linguistica Italiana. GSCP has been one of the main European forums for the discussion of the interdisciplinary area related to the study of spoken communication in all its aspects ever since its inception in Naples (Italy) in 2003. GSCP is a rich opportunity for the advancement of scholarship not only in linguistic studies related to spoken language but also to interfacing disciplines and new technologies (acoustic engineering, language pathology, logopedia, artificial intelligence, etc).

GSCP conferences cater to researchers interested in spoken communication with focuses ranging from the biological bases of communication to the speakers’ strategies during interaction, including speech pathology, automatic treatment of speech data and resources for the study of speech (banks, analysis, synthesis and automatic tagging resources).

The seventh GSCP will take place at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in Brazil, catering to an increasing interest in spoken language studies in Brazil, which has been demonstrated through the organization of significant academic conferences in the area and the creation of linguistic resources.

GSCP 2012 has as its main theme the relationship between speech and corpora studies and welcomes submissions about spoken corpora, their methodologies, data collection, objectives, validation techniques, besides linguistic analyses based on speech corpora.
