The lexical database "VerboWeb - syntactic-semantic classification of Brazilian Portuguese verbs" presents a broad analysis of a great number of verbs, separated in groups by their syntactic and semantic properties. The database is still in development, presenting now about 1500 verbs. Our goal is to reach the classification and analysis of 3000 verbs. Suggestions about verbs and sentences, as well as comments on our analysis of the data, are extremely welcome, since this is a work continuously in progress, due to the complexity in classifying and analyzing the verbal lexicon of a language.

The data and analyses shown here are built by the research team, based on the "Catálogo de Verbos do Português Brasileiro" ("Catalog of Brazilian Portuguese Verbs") and on the work of NuPeS (FALE's research group in Lexical Semantics). The theoretical part that supports the classification of verbs and justifies the analyzed properties is presented comprehensively in the publications: "Catálogo de Verbos do Português Brasileiro" ("Catalog of Brazilian Portuguese Verbs"), "Introdução à Semântica Lexical"(Introduction to Lexical Semantics"), and "VerboWeb: uma proposta de classificação verbal" ("VerboWeb: a verb classification proposal").

Although we follow a lexical-semantics approach for the classification of verbs, the data and analyses presented here can be useful for researchers from different theoretical perspectives. We also understand that the database is a useful tool for researchers and students from other areas, besides linguistics. For example, we can point out the usefulness of the information contained here for researchers and students in the area of Natural Language Processing, Teaching Portuguese as a Foreign Language, Translation and Portuguese Teaching.

The structure of the database was developed, initially, by Henrique Rocha de Deus and Adriano Veloso, from the Department of Computer Sciences at UFMG. Rafael Bergamaschi and Ricardo Bruno Costa, from FALE's TI, upgraded the structure and elaborated the interface.

This project was supported by CNPq and also by Instituto de Estudos Avançados e Transdisciplinares (IEAT/UFMG).
