Eros and Thanatos: a discussion of eroticism in Milton's L' Allegro e Il Penseroso
- Death in the Twin Poems - An Essay of Two Corpses
Alessandro Augusto Travassos . Undergraduate Monograph
ABSTRACT
The purpose of this work is to analyse Milton’s twin poems, L’allegro and Il Penseroso based on the Freudian principle of the Life Drive (EROS) and the Death Drive (THANATOS). Those principles can be noted in the poems by the release of the interpretative pressure in L’allegro and the presence of that pressure in Il Penseroso. The presence of eroticism is also noticed in the poems and it will be analysed according to George Bataille.
