Fábio Alves

FABIO ALVES is Associate Professor of German and Translation at the Department of Anglo-Germanic Languages at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil. He holds an M.A. in English with a focus on Translation Studies from the UFMG and a PhD in Applied Linguistics from the Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany. His Doctoral Dissertation has a psycholinguistically-oriented approach. His research unfolds in three main areas, namely: empirical-experimental research on translation with a focus on psycholinguistic and pragmatic traits of the translation process; research on interculturality and autonomy in the field of second/foreign language learning/acquisition and teaching and, finally, research on the relationship between language, cognition and culture within a non-formalist approach. He has published articles in magazines such as Meta, Intercâmbio, TradTerm and Estudos da Linguagem as well as books and book chapters both in Brazil and Germany.
